MÜLHEIM: AN EVOLVING NEIGHBOURHOOD

The pontoon bridge in Mülheim opened in 1888. In 1914, the town was incorporated into Cologne. Located on the right bank of the river Rhine, Mülheim developed into one of the most important logistics hubs of the region in the early 20th century. Former horsecar lines were replaced with trams and by 1913, the district of Mülheim was home to as many as nine tram lines.

Mülheim is now the biggest district of the metropolis on the banks of the Rhine and is popular across all ages and cultures. Keupstrasse, for example, is a centre of Turkish business life that is well-known far beyond the city limits. The streetscape here is characterised by a large number of restaurants and cafés.

Neighbouring Schanzenstrasse is home to television studios of various popular programmes on national television, as well as the event venues Palladium and E-Werk.
